The proper add-on equipment of the vehicle makes it also possible to curry out technical maintenance of combat vehicles in the battlefield.
The mechanical design of the BMV is based on the STAR 1466 truck, which is a 6 x 6 (3-axle) cross-country vehicle. Manufactured by the STAR-MAN TRUCKS company based in Poland, the STAR-1466 has the respective certificate for use in the Polish Armed Forces. Load-carrying platform
The load-carrying platform has hinged side boards. Depending on the task to be done, the side boards can put fully down or locked in the horizontal position. When In the horizontal position, the side board makes an additional platform for the personnel in the process of loading/unloading. With the side board fully down, loading/unloading of heavy objects, e.g. ammunition containers, pallets, can be done with use of a fork-lift truck. Fixing brackets are available in the front and rear parts of the side board when locked horizontally, to be used for hitching a ladder.
Lifting crane The BMV is provided with a lifting crane arranged between the driver's cabin and the platform. It can be used for loading/unloading heavy loads onto/from the BMV platform or the towed trailer. The crane is operated from a fixed control panel or conveniently from a control pendant on a flexible cable connection. Land navigation facility The BMV is equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, which gives the crew their current position in terrain and enables to enter the positions of the sites to be reached for logistic or maintenance purposes. Battlefield maintenance capability Apart from its basic function, the BMV can be used for technical maintenance of weapons or other equipment in battlefield conditions. This includes gun adjustment, replacement of ammunition magazines, barrels or complete cannons, loading/unloading of pallets with heavy equipment and other maintenance works, subject to the specialised equipment of the BMV itself. |
