Airborne Transponder Sets

They are designed to be integrated with different kinds of airborne platforms (fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters). Taking into consideration the wide variety of airborne platforms, 9 different transponder sets have been developed, fitting such aircraft as Mirage 2000, Hawk, Tornado, Gazelle, Su-22M4, Mi-24W, Mi-24D, Su-22MU3K, MiG-29, MiG-29U, W-3W, Mi-8, Mi-14PS, MI-14PL, Mi-17, Ts-11, MiG-21UM, MiG-21Bis, AN-28.

An IFF transponder unit is the main part of ach set. The transponder and the two antennas are the same for each version. Some differences between the particular versions include:

  • control panel type (physical shape and design),
  • data link between the control panel and the transponder unit (serial or parallel data transmission),
  • interface between the transponder and the on-board electrical installation.

Main performances:

  • Transmitter peak power 27 dBW
  • Receiver sensitivity (MDL) -77 dBm
  • Power supply 24 to 29 V DC

General-Purpose Transponder Set

This transponder set is dedicated mainly to ship borne IFF installations (either surface warships or submarines). But it can as well be used in land vehicles. The set includes a transponder and a power supply unit, both placed in a housing with some space left to accommodate add-on mode 4 (secure mode) hardware. An antenna with a nearly-hemisphere pattern complements the set. The performances of this set are essentially the same as those of the airborne set. Some differences concern mainly power supply requirements. The ship borne transponder sets is suited for 220 V 50 Hz AC or 28 V DC power supply. The nominal power consumption is below 100 W.
